Summertime and Matters of the Heart

The heart is one of the main organs associated with summer (the others are small intestine, gums, tongue, blood vessels and blood)

Our heart beats on average 100,000 times a day and 3 billion times in a 70-year life span. The center of compassion, our heart stores the spirit, reflected in the brightness of the eyes, and is associated with insight love, faith, and creativity. An imbalance  in the heart may cause insomnia, over excitability, vivid dreams, seizures, excess or lack of emotion. The emotion associated with the heart is joy (or absence of joy), the taste is bitterness, the sound is laughter and the order is burning. Western medicine now acknowledges a connection between periodontal disease, chronic inflammation, atherosclerosis and heart disease, Chinese physicians had figured this out centuries ago, viewing each of them as being related to a fire imbalance.
