On Wednesday November 24 at 6 p.m. Buffalo’s “Athletic Greats” Inner City Sports Program  will host  its  annual gathering thanks to the diligence and dedication of Richard“The Lionhearted” Clark. He was later joined by LeRoi C. Johnson, Zellie Dow, Lum Smith and Gilbert Hargrave.

This year the  Thanksgiving Eve  event will take place at The Rose, 199 Scott Street (at lower Michigan Avenue). Doors open at 6 p.m.  The public is invited.     As in years past, one of the highlights has been the tribute to those “greats” who have made their transition; tremendous athletes like Zellie Dow, Fred Foster, Al Brown, and Hank Sevillian.

“A  lot  of the guys have gone on but the Athletic Greats gathering continues to bring everybody together,” said Richard.

The public is invited to attend. All athletes of any sport from any era is welcome to join us. This years event will honor “Greats” Charles Mancuso, Jason  Rowe, Art Serotte, Romeo McKinney Yvette Angel, Dwight Williams Gene Roberson, Roger Brown , Mike Norwood and Jim Horne.

There will be music and fun at this very informal affair. Participants look forward to another year of laughter, “tall tales” of “back in the day,” and renewing old friendships.

Masks are strongly encouraged as the local COVID numbers are rising. “Last year we had to cancel due to the pandemic  so this will be a really significant reunion!” said Richard. “See you there!”
