Update: Texans Suffer Defeat “Deep in the Heart” of Buffalo!”

By George Radney & Kevin Cheeks

The Buffalo Bills are a playoff contending team gearing up for the next two tough road games at Kansas City Chiefs and Tennessee Titans on Sunday Night Football and Monday night football respectively. The next two weeks will tell a lot about how much the Bills have improved over last season.

I like the move of benching Cordy Ford for Spencer Brown moving to tackle position and Daryl Williams to Guard spot. This gives Bills a bigger offensive line suited especially for the running game. Their pass protection will improve once given the live game reps needed for them to become a cohesive unit. Devin Singletary had 14 carries for 79 yards and would have more if not benched for fumbling the ball twice. That’s one thing Head Coach Sean McDermott won’t stand for is fumbling the ball or dropped passes will not be tolerated.

The Bills schedule is in their favor this season with several games against weaker opponents including the Jets (2), Jaguars, Falcons, and Dolphins. Yeah, I know, Patriots are looking weaker and weaker. What could Patriots Head Coach Bill Belichick been thinking by going with rookie QB Mac Jones over Cam Newton? Cam would have given his offense and team a better chance to win. I think Belichick outcoached himself by thinking he could win consistently with Jones over Newton.

The Bills defense played well allowing 97 yards while forcing 5 turnovers. Bills Safety Jaquan Johnson making his first career start filling in for Jordan Poyer, had an interception. Bills defense is loaded with young talent at most positions. Once again Mario Addison was invisible and did not register on the defensive stat sheet. Jerry Hughes did register a tackle and both are good locker room guys for the Bills talented unit. Houston Texans Head Coach David Culley said, “Our entire offense didn’t play well today Obviously the quarterback handles the ball every time.

He made a couple of throws that I wish he’d have held back. But I thought he did exactly what we really asked him to do, other than taking care of the ball. It wasn’t on him. You put anybody out there today. You could put Joe Montana out there today, and the way we played, you’re not going to have any success on offense.” It’s a shame that a Black man always seems to get NFL Head Coaching jobs with teams in transition. The Houston Texans front office has gutted this team in order to get a top draft pick for next season in hopes of landing a quarterback.

Tremaine Edmunds starting middle linebacker had a career game with 6 tackles, 1 interception and 1 pass defense. Tremaine must continue to step his game up. I think Tremaine is more of an outside linebacker and play more on the outside while Matt Milano recovers from hamstring injury. The Bills defense now joins the 2000 Ravens, and 1991 Washington Football Team as the only teams since 1990 to record two shutouts in the first four games of the season. The Bills defensive unit has limited opponents to 44 points this season, the second fewest in franchise history through first four games of a season.

The Bills travel to Kansas City to play the Chiefs on Sunday Night Football. This will be a true test for the team and I see the Bills offensive unit being able to run the ball effectively and not rely on Josh Allen to win the game. Allen must continue to play within himself and not allow the moment to be TOO big for him.

Bills defensive unit need to be steady and not allow many big plays by Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes and Bills defense will bend but not break in a very exciting game won by Bills 31 – 28. Bills running game will be the key with upgraded offensive line.
