Bombsquad Academy to Host Amateur Boxing Competition Buffalo vs. Pittsburgh “Knuckles up, Guns Down” on October 2!

On Saturday, October 2, 2021, Bomb Squad Academy will host an evening of skill and elite training as Buffalo takes on Pittsburgh for a 15-bout amateur boxing competition. The event will be held at 307 Leroy Ave. in Buffalo and will feature National Champions Spoonie James and Sonny Taylor. The event is free and open to the public to cheer on your favorite contestant.  Weigh-ins start at noon, and the first bell rings at 2:00 to start the evening’s competitions.  

Established in 2004, Bombsquad Academy Center focuses on developing young people from Buffalo, particularly underserved and under-resourced communities. Centrally located in the East Side, Bombsquad welcomes those of any race, sex, or orientation to its organization, providing services at a reasonable cost, with dues collected monthly or yearly. The heart of its mission is to train and teach boxing to individuals of any age while establishing personal discipline, self-confidence, fitness, patience, and etiquette. 

Its founder, Terry Williams, asserts that “Bombsquad Academy is a goal-driven organization that looks to promote pride in the inner-city of Buffalo while welcoming outside (national and international) groups for tournaments.” “Bombsquad Academy goals are that participants will be shaped into well-rounded individuals both inside and outside the boxing ring while gaining self-confidence to be a valued member of society,” declares Williams. 

Complying with New York State and Erie County Health Department COVID-19 guidelines- masking is required, and Bombsquad Academy will maintain related safety measures including temperature checks, dutiful sanitizing, and cleaning equipment in and around the ring.
