Mayor Lovely Warren wants to see the state law changed so the city can immediately fire police officers for cause; which one of the key reforms of the city’s future of policing plan adopted last month calls for. But Rochester’s state delegation does not appear to support her.
She said she does not understand their hesitation in light of today’s modern technology- i.e. cell phones, video and body cams. “We have a completely different set of circumstances,” Warren said. “You have the documentation you need to make a determination. You have it right before you.”
“The law must change to allow us to be able to deal with the times. The Rochester delegation she charged has the political power but must find “the strength” as legislators, to back the change.
