Just Buffalo Presents Bestselling Author Ta-Nehisi Coates in Conversation Virtual BABEL Event Streams April 22-29 Just Buffalo Literary Center concludes its virtual BABEL season with bestselling author Ta-Nehisi Coates, premiering on April 22 at 8 p.m.
The one-hour event, filmed in advance at Kleinhans Music Hall, features a conversation with Coates and music by Buffalo artist Drea D’Nur.
“Ta-Nehisi Coates is one of the most important writers working today—period,” said Barbara Cole, artistic director of Just Buffalo Literary Center. “Not only are his books and essays beautiful but they are also timely.
As the news cycle reveals every day, structural racism and violence against Black bodies must be addressed, and Coates opens that conversation. Toni Morrison called Between the World and Me required reading, and it is. Coates’s work is essential for every single person.” Coates is a distinguished writer in residence at NYU’s Arthur L. Carter Journalism Institute.
He is the author of the bestselling books The Beautiful Struggle, We Were Eight Years in Power, and Between The World And Me, which won the National Book Award in 2015. His first novel, The Water Dancer, was released in September 2019. Ta-Nehisi is a recipient of a MacArthur Fellowship.
He is also the current author of the Marvel comic Captain America. Coates’s BABEL appearance is part of Just Buffalo’s 2021 Civil Writes Project, a series of interconnected community events that open conversations, encourage reading and writing, and invite widespread participation around BABEL visits from the world’s foremost Black and African-American writers. Virtual tickets are available for $25.
After the initial stream, the event will be viewable through April 29.
