CULTURE: ROCHESTER’S CEREBRAL KINGDOM BOOKSTORE

Cerebral Kingdom, Rochester’s Black-owned bookstore, located at 533 State St., is owned by husband and wife Anthony King and Zakiya McAdams-King. The store, which opened last August, is a welcome and much needed  addition to the Rochester community!

Owners Anthony King and Zakiya McAdams-King’s vision for this movement was birthed out of a deep seated love for our families, community and ancestry. Amazingly, they opened last August  in the midst of a pandemic. Cerebral is an intriguing movement in Rochester, New York with long term and far reaching benefits to our families and community. “Our vision for this movement was birthed out of a deep seated love for our families, community and ancestry specifically in light of the many tragedies impacting African Americans, many stemming from our youth simply not possessing knowledge of self or the understanding of how the countless innovations and accomplishments of our great ancestors has greatly influenced all things great in this country and the world.

The couple released the following statement of purpose: “We want to highlight the countless innovations and accomplishments of our great ancestors by providing titles and resources that show we’ve greatly influenced all things great in this country and the world.

“Our logo, ‘NEA ONNIM NO SUA A, OHU‘ –  a West African Adinkra symbol that means ” He who does not now can know through learning”   embodies the principal  of life long commitment to knowledge education and learning . ” He who does not know can know, through learning. We provide quality products centered around African heritage.”

At cerebralkingdom.com You can purchase a wide array of books on many topics relating to African and African American History and Spirituality. We hope you are as excited as we are about this movement as we seek to push individuals, families and communities forward through inspiration, enlightenment and empowerment every day,” the couple concluded.
