John H. Walker, Jr. and Darryl Boyd, collectively known as “The Buffalo 5”will return to New York State Supreme Court on Monday, March 22nd. This will be a continuation of the proceeding that began on Wednesday, December 2, 2020 when The Buffalo 5 filed a Motion To Vacate Erie County Indictment 41-413. That is the indictment number the Buffalo 5 were issued back during 1976, when they were wrongly indicted for the murder of a Mr. William Crawford in Buffalo.
The Buffalo 5, are: John H. Walker, Jr., Darryl Boyd, Darryn Gibson, Floyd Martin and Tyrone Woodruff.
Crawford was a 62 year old Caucasian individual who was accosted, assaulted, beaten to death, and robbed outside of his Fillmore Avenue residence in the early morning hours of January 2 , 1976. Three of the Buffalo 5 (Walker, Boyd, and Gibson) were wrongly convicted of the murder, and altogether spent 84 years in New York State prison. A fourth (Martin) was exonerated at trial. Both Walker and Boyd, and Darryn Gibson (prior to his death), have persistently proclaimed their innocence.
Erie County District Attorney John Flynn is opposing the Buffalo 5’s Motion To Vacate, and Judge Christopher J. Burns will (also) be ruling whether 1976 crime scene photographs depicting a lone assailant’s footprints constitutes “New Evidence.”
