Kimberly Beaty, a former Deputy Commissioner and Buffalo Police Department district chief, is reportedly among a field of candidates seeking to run for Erie County Sherriff this year. She is currently the Canisius College Director of Public Safety, the first woman in the college’s history to hold that title.
Beaty, was a respected member of the Buffalo Police department for 31 years before she retired and took the job at Canisus. Prior to leaving the force she sought to become Buffalo’s first female police chief.The mayor’s failure to appoint her was a huge disappointment to many in the Black community.
Bernard “Bernie” A. Tolbert, a former Democratic candidate for Erie County sheriff, said Monday that he will not seek the post again this year. A former special agent in – charge of the Buffalo FBI, Tolbert narrowly lost to Howard in 2017.
