Bills Defeat Colts 27 – 24 to Secure First Playoff Win

by George Radney

The Buffalo Bills won their first playoff game since 1995 with a tough defensive stand and the Indianapolis Colts misuse of their timeouts.

Stefon Diggs caught 6 passes for 128 yards and Dawson Knox caught his first career playoff TD on a 3-yard reception.

Bills QB Josh Allen became the fifth player in NFL history for passing, receiving, and rushing TD in their playoff careers. Allen has grown a lot this NFL season but his inability to get rid of the ball is a glaring problem. He continues to be very careless with the football and it almost cost him against the Colts. Thank goodness Bills right tackle Daryl Williams recovered a fumble for a 23-yard loss. When Josh is under pressure during key points of a game it will tell the story of his true abilities.

The Bills running game must step up their play with possibly adding TJ Yeldon and Antonio Williams to give them a shot in the arm. TJ Yeldon started at University of Alabama and has played in many big games in college and the NFL Jacksonville Jaguars. I also like how runner Antonio Williams performed against Miami Dolphins two weeks ago scoring two touchdowns. The Bills must find some guards during offseason due to the fact that Ike Boettger can’t get it done at the left guard position. The Bills have also played Brian Winters on one leg and injuries, which has diminished the abilities of the former Pro Bowler.

The Bills General Manager traded away second year guard Wyatt Teller to the Cleveland Browns for a 5th & 6th round picks in 2020 draft. Teller is now highly regarded as one of the best young Guards in the NFL. Teller had an outstanding game, blocking for Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunt, in upsetting an underachieving Pittsburgh Steeler team. Bills did get in return at 5th pick QB Jake Fromm and 6th round pick Isiah Hogkins, who can be a quality wide receiver in the coming years.

The right side of the line, Jon Feliciano and Daryl Williams, started to show wear and tear as Colts defensive front put constant pressure on them. They did get the job done and allowed QB Josh Allen to throw down field.

The  Bills defensive line allowed 163 rushing yards to a very good Colts team. The tackling was horrible, Pro football Focus counted 12 missed tackles by Bills defense. The Colts gained 472 yards and seemed to have the Bills defense on their heels all day. The Bills must upgrade their offensive and defensive lines in the off season.

Is it me or has anyone heard Mario Addison’s name called for making a play on defense yet? I can’t remember defensive series all season where he was a dominating force on defense. The Bills really miss Star Lotulelei at nose guard, Jordan Phillips, and Shaq Lawson on defensive front.

The Bills will face Baltimore Ravens on Saturday night at Bills Stadium starting at 8:15

PM. Ravens Lamar Jackson, Gus Edwards, and JK Dobbins will run the football all night long with a limited passing game. The Bills must take  advantage of a banged up secondary of Ravens with Josh Allen going deep down the field. The Bills must use Isaiah McKenzie more with some short passes to get him going. I was surprised that he was not used more against the Colts.  I see the  Bills defense not being able to slow down the Ravens running game and our offense not executing enough to come away with the win. If the Ravens make mistakes and turn the ball over that would be a recipe for the Bills to take advantage of them and win the game. Prediction: Ravens will defeat Bills 24-21.
