Bills Defeat Raiders in The Desert 30 – 23

by George Radney

The Buffalo Bills continue to impress with solid play and very few penalties so far into the season. Bills QB Josh Allen has been very impressive with his accuracy and allowing his players to go up and fight for the ball. Bills slot receiver Cole Beasley was turned into Helicopter wings as he had to go up and come down with a TD pass. Yes, Josh Allen has showed some serious improvement over last season with a shorter throwing motion and his footwork in the pocket has vastly improved.  He actually thew the ball away when no one was open like a veteran QB.  Allen is maturing and is following good coaching advice as well as not allowing the moment to get bigger than him. Allen must continue to grow his football IQ in order for this team to not only make the playoffs but be able to win some games in January 2021.

The Bills defense improved against a mistake prone Raider offense that seemed to turn the ball over in critical situations. Bills cornerback Josh Norman had extended play time due to Levi Wallace’s ankle injury.Norman caused a forced fumble and recovered the ball.    This turned out to be a key play in the win.

Josh said his Marital Arts training in Jitsu is a mindset, assuring, “ I’m going to get it either in the air or on the ground I’m going to get the ball.”  Josh added, “The Raiders were playing off what we gave them, and smartly made plays and we finally started to get three and outs.” I believe that Josh’s cat like instincts can partly be attributed to his off-season Marital Arts workouts. He has traveled to Thailand to learn more and train in the martial Arts.

The Bills defense gave up 383 yards along with 24 first downs. This is a serious problem as the Bills will be playing very potent offenses in the coming weeks. The Bills must search waiver wire to find a run stuffing nose tackle to fill the void of Star Lotulelei opting out of this season. We do know former Buffalo Bill Marcell Dareus is available and could fit for a very reasonable price tag.  Its obvious the Bills current defensive front can’t stop the run and most future opponents will focus on running in between the tackles. Bills special teams returner Andre Roberts is having an excellent season. Roberts is the first Bills returner with back to back returns of 39 yards or more in consecutive weeks since Justin Rogers in 2011. The Bills concern on special teams must be with rookie kicker Tyler Bass missing his third extra point this season. When you get into tight games every point counts and being able to kick 50 to 60 yarders are fine but missing on 30 to 40 yarders is unacceptable. Our former kicker Stephen “MONEY” Hauschka was picked up by Jacksonville Jaguars last week.

The Bills might get a week off to heal its injured players if the  game in Nashville, Tennessee against the Titans is postponed due to a  COVID 19 outbreak within the Tennessee Titans organization. The Bills would then play their next game on Thursday, October 15 against the Kansas City Chiefs. This primetime matchup will be much anticipated in Western New York. If the Bills play Titans on Sunday, I see Buffalo t winning 28 – 20 in another slugfest with Titans running back Derrick Henry rushing for over 100 yards, while Bills defense continues to bend but not break mentality. I would like to see more use of running back TJ Yeldon out of the backfield and more screen plays down field. The Bills offensive tackle Daryl Williams is playing quite well at left tackle and seems to be regaining his All Pro form from 2016. Bills now have so many weapons on offense and can spread the field with receivers allowing Josh Allen to pick the open receiver.
