36 Outstanding Individuals to be Honored at First Black Achievers Virtual Awards Event This Weekend!

Streaming on Saturday, October 3  at 8p.m. on the Black Achievers website (buffaloblackachievers.org) and on WKBW-TV’s website (www.wkbw.com) from 8-11pm.  The event will also be streamed on social media. The virtual gala will broadcast on WKBW-TV Channel 7 on Sunday, October 4 from 12-2p.m.  

Black Achievers, Inc., will honor 36 outstanding individuals on Saturday October 3, 2020 when it hosts the 48th Annual Black Achievers Virtual Awards Celebration. 

Honorees are: Letitia Adams, Sharon Belton Cottman, Michael Benton, Jr., Jason L. Bird, Deidre Williams Boyd, Dr. Gregory F. Daniel, MD , Elanor Gayles Davis, Tameka C. Dixon, Phylicia Dove, Damar Dowell, Christina M. Drakeford, Cynetra Ferguson, Royal S. Headley, Travis Hill, Kenya K. Hobbs, Howard Johnson, Tony Jones, DeWitt Lee, III, Jamila Lee, Jacqueline Mines, Mia Mootry, Omar Overstreet, Chichi Owunawanne, William A. Preston, Sr., Kevin Ross, Rishawn Sonubi, Ryan A. Thomas, Rasheed N.C. Wyatt, Harrita West, and Joseph Young. 

In addition, there will be six special award recipients: Donald K. Boswell, President and CEO of Buffalo Toronto Public Broadcasting, will receive the Media Award.  M&T Chairman and CEO René F. Jones will accept the organization’s Award of Excellence. Tanya M. Staples, a Senior Director with Say Yes Buffalo, will be honored with the Mayor’s Youth Award. Juneteenth President Marcus O. Brown will receive the Community Service Award.  Mrs. Karen Saxon, a music educator, director and performer extraordinaire, will be presented with the Irene Bellamy Musician’s Award. The Homecoming Award will be presented to former Buffalo resident Nicholas K. Fortson.
