I am writing in reference to Reverend Coplin and his staff working with our students at MST@Seneca High School in the Project W.I.T.T. Program (Wisdom In Troubled Times).
He and his staff work with many of our students who, in many cases, are at risk students who need assistance with their academic outcomes along with social /emotional development. Many students are affected by today’s issues that truly impact their social/emotional wellbeing. As principal at MST and in education for over thirty years, I can attest to the incredible impact W.I.T.T. has given our students which has improved positive attitudes and behavior. More than half of these students increased their grade point average!
Most importantly, Reverend Coplin’s leadership and passion to assist our school with positive outcomes has shown amazing results. Our school, three years ago, averaged over 70 formal suspension per year. This past year, with W.I.T.T. playing a major role in our cultural redesign, reduced our formal suspension to 5 for the entire year! Restorative practices and showing unconditional regard for all students has proven to be the recipe for success.
We introduced, for the 2019-2020 school year, “SPEAK LIFE TWICE” as our “Mantra.” I believe it has created positive impact on teachers, parents and all of our students. This program has proven to be a major impact on our graduation rate and continually shows increases with positive academic outcomes.
We are in so much need for programs of this type so students may receive the necessary supports to get through these toughest times. Reverend Coplin has given our students “Hope” and “Purpose” to reach for the stars and follow their dreams. We are very fortunate to be associated with this man and his program. We know, together, we can build an army of young men and women to reconstruct the future for so many students in need.
