Buffalo Niagara Community Reinvestment Coalition Wants to Ensure Funding Goes to Black and Brown Communities

The Buffalo Niagara Community Reinvestment Coalition will be holding a press conference on the steps of City Hall Today Wednesday June 24@ 10:30a.

In the midst of COVID-19 and calls to defund the police, long standing racial disparities lay themselves bare for our City to grapple with. In Buffalo, those disparities are acutely felt by our black and brown communities.

Federal funding through the CARES Act in the sum of around $8 million is coming to the City of Buffalo to address issues related to COVID-19. We want to ensure that funding goes to preventative services for the communities who shoulder the burden.

We want to see support for services like:

-rental assistance
-small business assistance
-helping mom-and-pop landlords
-preventing foreclosures
-funding home repairs
-assisting with medical debt
-providing mental health services
-alleviating food insecurity
-providing access to technology
-ensuring access to affordable water
-providing language access
-providing further access to testing for coronavirus
-a plan for our most vulnerable communities amidst this pandemic

We need local government that recognizes and acknowledges the racial disparities in our City and the willingness to provide the transparency needed to close those gaps.
