NYS Thruway Announces Skilled Trades Scholarship Program

The New York State Thruway Authority is excited to once again offer the Skilled Trades Scholarship Program. The Program is designed to provide students in vocational/technical programs or students accepted for enrollment at a trade school or college-level trade program (carpentry, electrical, HVAC, plumbing), with a full-time job in their chosen field and a $1,000 scholarship towards education expenses.

As full-time Thruway Authority employees, the Skilled Trades Scholarship recipients receive full benefits, including eligibility for 90 percent reimbursement of their tuition. The combination of the $1,000 scholarship and tuition reimbursement will allow students to pursue their career path in the trades with little to no cost to themselves! Further, recipients will be mentored by a journey-level skilled tradesperson who will assist them with gaining valuable on-the-job experience while working toward their educational goals.

Information on eligibility and requirements, as well as application information for the 2020 Program,  on the Thruway Authority’s website. You may also contact the Bureau of Equal Employment Opportunity and Diversity Development at (518) 471-4321 if you have additional questions.
