Roswell Dedicates New Facility in Honor of Carl Thomas

Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center has dedicated a new facility on its campus in honor of Carl Thomas, a Buffalo resident and community leader who served as Roswell Park’s Chief of Public Safety for the past 15 years and was recently named to a new role at the cancer center: Chief Organizational and Community Liaison.

The Carl Thomas Public Safety Training Center will be used to provide training in various aspects of safety, customer service and law enforcement for Roswell Park staff. The dedication ceremony and naming of the center were a surprise to Chief Thomas, who joined Roswell Park as an environmental services team member in 1976. He steadily rose through the ranks after being named an officer with the center’s Public Safety team two years later.

Chief Thomas’ new role allows him to focus on an area he is passionate about: community engagement. “Carl has been one of the most recognizable and passionate ambassadors for Roswell Park’s mission, so we wanted to find a fitting way to acknowledge all his contributions to our patients, our families, our employees and our community” says Candace S. Johnson, PhD, President and CEO of Roswell Park.
