Jinah Parker, a multi-faceted creative force from Buffalo, will be among those honored with a Distinguished Alumni Award when the UB Theatre and Dance presents Zodiaque Dance Company Celebration 45 . The awards gala will be presented during a special gala performance celebration and pre-show to the concert on Friday, November 16, at the Center for the Arts on the UB campus at 7 p.m.
As a dancer, choreographer, playwright, and educator, Jinah’s work is inspired by the tenacity of Debbie Allen and the endless intellectual curiosity of Katherine Dunham. Her work has been hailed as “stunning,” “eye-poping,” and “inclusive” Jinah’s current project “SHE, a Choreoplay,” is headed Off- Broadway in the Spring of 2019. SHE, a multimedia theater production, is about sexual violence against women and girls, Sandra Bland, and healing.
SHE combines dance, theater, video, and music. Jinah received a Master’s Degree in Dance Education from New York University and a B.A. in Dance from the University at Buffalo, where she was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa National Honors Society.
