The Senior Program at the Gloria J. Parks Community Center proudly announces its first annual LIVING WELL Health Fair for Seasoned Seniors!
The event is sponsored by United Healthcare and is free for all adults aged 60 and over, and will be held 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday, August 24th in the gym at the Gloria Parks Community Center at 3242 Main Street.
The Senior Program serves over 400 active seniors annually. Program Director Phyllis Caver explains, “Our seniors are seasoned with all kinds of life experience, and one thing they have in common is an interest in learning more about increasing their wellness and quality of life. So I decided we’d bring a whole array of health service providers to our center to share the latest services and information for how to live well.
It’s a kind of one-stop shopping experience for your health.” There will be several participatory presentations, including Tai Chi for Beginners by the Taoist Tai Chi Center of Buffalo at 10:30 a.m.; a Cooking Demonstration of easy-to-make meals by Chef Jack of Erie County Senior Services Department at 11:00 a.m.; and a demonstration of the popular Hustle for Health urban line dance for seniors at Noon. There will be a free hot dog lunch from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. The Gym will be filled with vendors providing free information and some services.
Among the vendors, include Walgreen’s Pharmacy, UB Pharmacy for free blood pressure monitoring, People’s Inc., All Metro, 211-Human Service Information, Senior ID Tag, Free Chair Massage Therapy, Mammogram Prevention, Stay Fit Dining, UB Dental Clinic, The Taoist Tai Chi Society of Buffalo, Hustle for Health, WNT Qigong, Blue Wireless, The Alzheimer’s Association, NY State Wide Senior Outreach, and United Healthcare.
