CALLING ALL BUFFALO PUBLIC HIGH SCHOOL ARTISTS & DESIGNERS! Entry deadline: Wednesday, January 30 2019
Telling the Story: American Enslavement of African People

2019 marks 400 years since American enslavement of African people began The Buffalo & Erie County Public Library is planning a new exhibit of items from its collection that tell part of this important story.

Design a Logo for This Important Exhibit!

Entry deadline: Wednesday, January 30, 2019. The winning designer will receive a $50 gift card from Hyatt’s Art Supplies and special recognition from the Buffalo Board of Education.

The designer’s school will also receive a $50 gift card. Winning logo will be used on all marketing materials relating to the exhibit (anticipated opening in March 2019) at the downtown Central Library.

*The exhibit will include original, rare items such as: Receipts and documents relating to auctions of enslaved people, Ledger listing enslaved people living on plantations in the South; and First person narrative storytelling To watch “Slavery in America: A History of America’s Peculiar Institution” .

Contest Rules
• Design contest open to high school students who attend a Buffalo Public School. Up to two design entries are permitted per student. The exhibit title Telling the Story: American Enslavement of African People must be included in the design.

• Entries must be original artwork no larger than 8½ x 11 using any print media, and should be submitted as a High Res PDF file, along with the entry form, via email to Communications@BuffaloLib.org or mailed/delivered to Central Library, Att: Communications, 1 Lafayette Square, Buffalo, NY 14203 by 5 p.m. on January 30, 2019.


• Unacceptable entries include tracings, copied designs or licensed characters. Entries will be judged on originality and neatness.


• All entries become the property of the Buffalo & Erie County Public Library.
