The 20th Annual Maafa: Day of Remembrance in Rochester

The 20th Annual Maafa: Day of Remembrance will be hosted by The Maafa Celebration Committee in collaboration with The Baobab Cultural Center, Inc. Saturday, June 9 from Noon-2:00 p.m. in Durand Eastman Park, Rochester, NY at the shoreline.

The theme is “We Are Because They Were..” Brother Jerome Underwood will be the guest speaker. The event will be marked by a libation ceremony, guided imagery, the casting of flowers, and more.

Local warriors Bishop Gregory Parris and Audrey Smith will be honored. This event is free and open to all who desire to honor those African souls lost in the Middle Passage and the New World.

Donations are gratefully accepted. Everyone is asked to wear white, and to bring a lawn chair and flowers for the libation ceremony.

In case of inclement weather the gathering will take place at the Baobab Cultural Center, ROCHESTER SET TO CELEBRATE 20TH ANNUAL MAAFA DAY OF REMEMBRANCE 728 University Avenue.
