Rise up Right Sports Update with Andre ‘The Torch’ Robinson

Thank you everyone for rising up right with me in the world of sports….Let’s get right into the highlights for the past week.

NBA News

The world of basketball invited us to some of the greatest talents on the court and also gave us a sneak preview of what the future holds with the emergence of many young players such as Donovan Mitchell, Jayson Tatum, Ben Simmons, Jaylen Brown, and Terry Rozier. These guys made the playoffs very very interesting….. but when the dust settled and the skies clear only 2 teams were left standing.

In Game Seven of the Eastern Conference finals we got to witness greatness and veteran experience soar as Lebron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers beat the young upstart Boston Celtics who had been undefeated at home in these 2018 playoffs (11-0) 87-79 to reach the NBA finals. This victory sheds more light on the great career of Lebron James as he is now going to the NBA finals for the 8th straight season. Some people are calling this postseason run, one of Lebron James greatest accomplishments due to the lack of team support on the court. Congratulations to Lebron James and the Cavaliers for their 4th straight NBA finals appearance.

On Monday night, we saw a problem develop in Houston and other team who will be making their 4th straight NBA finals appearance took advance of the misfortunes. The Golden State Warriors are back in the NBA finals again as they preserved and finished off the Houston Rockets 101-92.  The injury to veteran point guard Chris Paul was very costly as Paul missed Game 6 and 7 due to a grade 2 hamstring strain. After having another excellent first half that saw the Rockets up 11 at halftime, the second half showed NBA fans the exact opposite. The Rockets went 1-30 from 3 point territory. Trevor Ariza ended Game Seven going 0-21. The playoff experience of Durant, Curry, Thompson, and Green proved to be too much for the Houston Rockets.

For the fourth consecutive year, we will see the Golden State Warriors and the Cleveland Cavaliers in the NBA Finals. Who will win Cavs vs Warriors IV? The Warriors have won 2 of the 3 NBA Finals showdowns.

NFL News

This NFL offseason has already been filled with many new additions from the NFL Draft, NFL free agency and also the rules changes bestow upon NFL games and players.  This past week saw the NFL gave a declaration that I find to be very confusing and very disheartening. The NFL is now enforcing a policy for players who dont stand for the national anthem. The new policy states that when “The Star-Spangled Banner” is played before games during the upcoming season, “all team and league personnel on the field shall stand and show respect for the flag and the Anthem.” Teams whose players kneel or otherwise fail to “show respect for the flag will be fined. In addition to that, teams may choose to fine their own players directly if they choose to kneel. Players who want to kneel will have to do so in the locker room if they want to avoid being fined…and even then that may not stop an owner from fining a player. What a sad day for the beautiful edifice that is the sport of American football. Will this have an negative impact on the league?
