Roses for Outstanding Women

Thirty-eight women will be honored at the 9th Annual Roses for Outstanding Women Awards Program on Saturday, March 3 at the Downtown Central Library auditorium. This is the largest number of honorees in the history of the Awards Program. The program will be dedicated to Retired Erie County Legislator Betty Jean Grant and Mrs. Joan Sutton for her contributions to her church – the First Shiloh Baptist Church. Each woman will receive a red rose and certificates from city and state officials. Doors open at 1:00 and the program will begin at 1:30.

The keynote speaker will be well-known business woman Jennifer Parker. Rev. Dr. James A. Lewis will MC the program. Entertainment will include Singer Joyce Carolyn and poetry by Vonetta Rhodes and Allie Freeman. Special recognition will be given to Principal Crystal Barton who organized a conference on African American History for years at McKinley High School. Admission to the program is free and open to the public.
